Covid-19 Business Interruption Insurance Claims Part 2

Businesses of all sizes suffered some type of economic loss as a result of Alabama’s mandatory shut down due to COVID-19. To help offset those losses, businesses are turning to their insurance companies for help.

Many businesses are being advised not to file a business interruption claim. Most insurance companies have taken the position that the COVID-19 pandemic is not a covered loss and therefore they are not willing to pay those claims. However, just because an insurance company states they are not willing to pay the claim doesn’t mean those who suffered economic losses are not entitled to be reimbursed.

Do not let your agent discourage you from filing a claim. They are not judges. They are not in a position to rule on whether or not a business will be able to recover damages under their business interruption coverage.

Many people bought a business income interruption policy thinking it would do exactly as the name implies. They would get insurance that would pay if their business was interrupted.

If you have lost income as a result of the COVID-19 mandatory closures, I suggest you do the following: Collect the evidence, notify the insurance company and file a Business Interruption claim.

If you receive a written denial of your claim, Joel and I are actively seeking these types of cases and will be glad to talk to you.

Buckle up, wash your hands and your referrals are always appreciated! 256-764-0112
