One of the more common injuries that we see from either be a car accident, truck wreck, or on the job injuries is a back injury. The back injuries are all different levels. Some back injuries are minors, strained muscles, maybe pulled ligaments. Those type of injuries are typically handled through a general practitioner and physical therapy. Now there are those accidents in those injuries which result in spinal cord type injuries, disc herniations, vertebral fractures, and those type injuries require a consult with an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon. Throughout mine and Tom's career, we have worked extensively with both orthopedic spine specialists and neurosurgeons, helping our clients get the best care for those type cases. Now in addition to those type of injuries, which necessitate surgery, be it a discectomy, a microdiscectomy, or spinal fusion, which are normally performed by a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic spine surgeon, some type of back injuries can be even more extensive, and those lead to spinal cord injuries. Fortunately here in the Southeast, we have one of the preeminent spinal cord treatment facilities in Atlanta known as the Shepherd Center. Tom and I have worked extensively with those experts there, with our clients who have been members of the Shepherd Center to get them back on their feet when they've had a devastating spinal cord injury. Now the biggest issue that our clients have during this time is how do they survive? How do they care for their families? They're seriously injured, they probably aren't able to work. Now if it's workers compensation, obviously they're drawing workers compensation benefits, but if it's a car accident or a truck wreck or slip and fall or one of those type of injuries, unless our clients have short term or long term disability policies, they do not have money coming in. And that's really where we have to come in and bear down and make sure that our clients are protected financially during the time of their recovery. And if for some reason they're not able to return to work, as far as their future problems go, we work hard to ensure that our clients are with the best surgeons, the best treatment facilities, make the best recovery and look to the future to protect them going forward.
