Yes, you can sue a property owner if their negligence contributed to the fire accident. This includes failure to maintain smoke alarms or proper installation of heating equipment.
Fire accidents can lead to various injuries, including burns, smoke inhalation, and scarring. In severe cases, they can result in long-term health issues or death.
Fire related accidents are always bad. You get smoke inhalation, you get burn injuries, you get scarring, you get death, you get scalded lungs. All these things are terrible. They're often preventable, a fire detector, a smoke alarm, those things are just absolutely vital. Sometimes we'll see rental properties where those aren't maintained. And when we see those things, what we like to do is file suit against the property owner. There are accidents where you have somebody will come in and it's cold outside, they'll leave the door open and they'll begin to put their groceries down in front of a heater. It's not working. Well, as the room cools off from the colder outside, those heaters can come on and it's called a thermocouple. And when those things come on and the groceries are in front of it, guess what catches on fire? And so now you're in and out of the house and you have a fire that was started with something you really didn't expect. And so we look at thermocouple cases, we look at poor installation where you can get a little leak, if something wasn't installed by a certified gas fitter and it's a gas heater, then those are really good cases also. They have to use a certain type of tape. It has to be certified. And if it's not and someone's hurt, we know how to help, so give us a call.
