Transcript

Workers' compensation is a compensatory scheme that's built into the law to take care of, really, dependence of injured workers. Back in the late 1800s, state governments and other governmental agencies began to see that if a man was hurt on the job, his children and his wife had no income. So they began to sort of construct these ideas that are purely statutory to make sure that those children, those wives did not go hungry. And that persists to this day. So if you're injured on the job, you have a workers' compensation statute that will take care of you. It'll provide for your medical care. It'll provide for you to get two thirds of your income while you're not working and while you heal. It'll provide for a permanent partial disability payment when you have healed as well as you can. And if you can't go back to work and you can never return to work, then you can get a lifetime payment. We've been doing workers' compensation for very nearly 40 years.
